Looks like we could get a boost from the state of Florida....

The Gator Bowl is strongly considering using a one-time provision to jump in front of the Cotton Bowl to invite a Big 12 team this season.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based bowl likely would benefit from selecting a team such as Oklahoma. The Gator needs strong attendance and healthy TV ratings as it seeks a new title sponsor.

"There's a number of teams from the Big 12 that would fill what the Gator Bowl would be looking for," Gator Bowl executive director Rick Catlett said Monday. "Obviously a 10-2 team like Oklahoma, if they finish that way, would be one of them. But you also have teams like Texas, Nebraska and Texas A&M. There are some awfully good teams there."

Texas A&M is presumed to be the leading candidate for the Holiday Bowl. That would leave Missouri, Texas Tech or Kansas State as Alamo Bowl candidates.

Alamo Bowl executive director Derrick Fox said selling tickets is an important factor to determine which Big 12 team he will take — particularly without a title sponsor.

"Whoever comes here will have to convince me they will bring fans to San Antonio to follow their team," Fox said.

Yeah, that was a good article. It sounds like we have a good shot at being in San Diego next month. My guess is if (hopefully when) we beat Texas, the bowl picture will look like this...

Fiesta: OU
Gator: UT
Cotton: Nebraska
Holiday: A&M
Alamo: K-State, Tech, or OSU

San Diego Californina from central texas = 1313.00 miles...19 + hours.
From College Station = add 2.0 hours.

I'm tempted to go ahead and buy a couple of seats to the Holiday Bowl, but the only ones they have left suck. Best available are very top level in the endzone for $65 each.

EDIT...The info I just posted was from the Holiday Bowl website. I just checked the stubhub site and tickets are much cheaper there.

At those prices, I'd love to go. The issue for me would be travel and lodging, which there is no way I could afford.

Of all the Big XII bowls, the Cotton, Alamo and Independence are the only ones I could attend.

If the wife and I decide to go hopefully we can get some sweet package deals.:D

Yeah, I hope that when I watch the Holiday Bowl on TV, there are a majority of Aggie fans there.

Cal is more than likely our opponent.

My wife and I are definitely considering going there for a few days if we make it to San Deigo. I can use airline miles for free tickets and only have to pay for hotel (which are not cheap though).

How do you figure OU will be in the Fiesta Bowl? The winner of the Big 12 Championship game will go there unless they go to the National Cahmpionship game, which they are not. Therefore, either tu or Nebraska will be going there. I have my money on OU going to the Gator bowl unless they somehow slip into one of those at-large BCS teams.

Sorry, I thought tu was already a lock for the championship. My Bad. P'ville could be correct then.

Here is how that happens
A&M beats tu:gig: :gig: :gig: :gig:
OU wins out

That would send OU to KC to play NU... winner of OU/NU plays in the BCS....

If NU wins that game, OU plays in the Gator Bowl, tu plays in the Cotton & A&M gets the Holiday.

If OU wins that game, tu plays in the Gator Bowl, NU plays in the Cotton & A&M still gets the Holiday.
