View Full Version : Texas Tech's Predictions

I see us going 10-2 and beating Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl.
If we can beat OU, make that 11-1 and beating Georgia in the Cotton.
...
We might lose to OU....but we should win the rest!
...
9-2 regular season
...
Yeah, I will be really disappointed with 7-4. 8-3 at worst, but I think (hope?) we go 10-1.

WOW!!!! If Tech goes 10-2, much less 11-1, I'll be looking for the shower rod. There is no way that is going to happen.

They describe the loss to A&M last year as an upset. At the time, we were ranked and they weren't. Also, I was at that game. A&M outplayed Tech throughout the game, but we kept giving up big plays and they stayed close. But, most of the game A&M was playing like the better team.
However, this year the game is in Lubbock and I'm not so sure. I'm hopeful, but not delusional. Tech will be a hard game for us to win this year.

It's totally in the realm of possibility for Tech to kick our ass and still end up going 4-8 or 5-7.
I hate playing that team.

I don't see tech getting 9 wins. I totally agree that they could kick the **** out of us if our secondary doesnt show up and still be a 4-8 team. The game in tortillaville will all depend on how gorer and carpenter can help our secondary. Honestly, i think we're gonna open up some eyes this year. This is our year to finally end this god awful streak in lubbock.

I think Tech will beat NU and Oklahoma State with no problems. I think that they could upset A&M and/or OU in Lubbock. I can't see them beating Texas in Austin, even though I think A&M and OU will both be better than Texas.

6-5 to 9-2 certainly is a broad spectrum....we havent won less than 7 since leachs arrival and this is supposed to be teh best tech team yet. tech can surely lose to tamu if teh game is in dallas....... why is tech beating tamu an upset..... tech could very well go into that game...7-1.....playing only texas thus far.
tamu will face @ clemson @cu vs ISU before hand.....
TwelfthAG

It's just too early to tell who will be what and that's the reason for the broad spectrum. Tech beating A&M would be just as much of an upset as A&M beating Tech. All I know is that it'll definitely be a good game.
Really you could say the same about A&M:
Will win:
SMU
Texas State
Baylor
Oklahoma State
@Kansas State
Iowa State
Should win:
@ Colorado
@ Clemson
Could win:
@ Texas Tech
@ Oklahoma
Texas

we havent won less than 7 since leachs arrival and this is supposed to be teh best tech team yet.
The problem is that the Big 12 South continues to get better also.
A&M has the best team since our 1998 team, not as good, but the best we've had since IMO. Texas in 2004 had their best team in over 30 years, they hit their peak. Although Texas has nowhere to go but down, I don't expect them to lose more than 3-4 games this year. OU will still be the best Big 12 team, they are top 10 EVERY year. Oklahoma State is a little down, but Tech still has to play the Big Three. They will likely lose 2 if not all three of those games. Also, like A&M, Tech usually loses to one team that they should've beaten every year. I see 8-3 as a likely record for Tech in 2005. 7-4 is possible, 9-2 would be overachievement, but 8-3 seems likely to me. Their 3 OOC games are guaranteed W's, so that will help Tech's ranking.

ok now that i can live with...... yeah you are dead right about the losing oen game you dont count on....tech always manages to lose to freds college. yeah tamu lost to baylor but tech lost to new mexico ...BLEGH!!! talk about embarrassment....i was at that game and i never wanted to crawl into a hole that bad in my life.

I think 8-3 is a very reasonable prediction for Tech.
L's to:
1: either TAMU or someone unexpected. call this the "wild card" loss
2. OU
3. UT
As Wade put it though, Tech could be a 4-8 team and still come up with the season wrecking loss for us at Jones. Damnit I hate Tech.
Really, I wish I could pencil in Tech as a W for us. In reality, anyone would be nuts to do so this far out. I'm dreading this game already. Between worry about a loss and worry about survivng that game alive (been there, done that. Tech fans truely are animals. Why am I going back? .....Oh yeah, I love the Aggies :gig: )
Riddle me this though Techsters, what is the consensus expectation among reasonable (if in fact there are any, maybe I'm asking too much there) Tech fans? I would think Tech people would be happy with 8-3. For me to be happy this season I need 9 wins. Anything else isn't improvement.

indeed there are resonable tech people out there so i will tell it like this.....
every year tech is like preseason 35-50
this year we are anywhere from 17-28. that means high expectations with talk of our best D in the mike leach era.
that having been said.
i see 8-3 as a (hopeful) senraio. if we get 8-3 and a better bowl that fredslawnmowers.com bowl.....i will be pleased.... kliff won us a 9 game season and i would like to see another one in my time.
in my eyes WINs......
(unless the impossible happens like tech vs newmexico or tamu vs baylor)
FIU
SAM
Indiana St
KU
KSU
@BU
should win.....
@NU
@OSU
now before you start talking about how good nebraska is going to be listen to my reason.... Texas tech had the #1 pass D in the big 12 last season and we return all our secondary minus SS. NU is breaking in a new QB in a still new WCO..... last year wasnt pretty 5int. from the husker QB's
opposite side the ball.... nebraskas lost their best DB in washington..... along with 2 more of their CB..... these guys will be wet behind the ears against our passing attack.
now....for the could wins....
TAMU
great series these two..... this is the best tech team in our little 10 yr spat and NOT the best tamu team....remember #5 TAMU lost to unranked tech in 95 or 97 i forget which one. Could go either way i can think of reasons each team will win
Tech
1. More talented recievers than before (j. hicks and RoJo and danny amendola)
2. Home field advantage.....techs fan base grows by the year......
3. tamu has difficulty throwing against tech (especially without T murph)
TAMU
1. REGGIE MCNEAL
2. Tamu SHOWS UP ready to face a crowd that has had luck melting the ags in teh past.
3. tech run D tech run D tech run D....tsk tsk tsk
and the losses go to
ou and ut
upset win only......will not win either of these because were "better" its gonna hve to be an upset
1.

I am not one that forsees NU beating you. They are at least a year away from that. Others may disagree, and that is fine, but IMO Tech beats NU.
OSU will be bad next year. Period. If you lose that game it is the "wild card" Tech loss, not because the team or crowd were too much.
remember #5 TAMU lost to unranked tech in 95 or 97 i forget which one.
EXACTLY why I agreed with Wade that I would still fear a 4-8 Tech team at Jones. Some say "hey new era, new staff new rules" but until it happens I can only pray they are right, I won't stick my neck out that the Tech curse is broken yet.
That said, I like our chances and I'll see you there.

We shouldn't have to pass much against your run D. But besides that I'm planning for an awesome game and can't wait for it.

Ya make our Qb who was 3rd in the Big XII in passing beat you in the air. A&M will come out with a balanced attack hopefully and keep the tech D off step all night......wait its just June no need to get into gameplans. By the time the game rolls their might not be a single starter for each team playing due to injuries. All I'm going to say is its going to be an awesome game.

I need Cotton Bowl berth or better to be satisfied. That's how I measure a good year. Whether that means 7 wins or 10 wins, Cotton Bowl means you had a good season.
Also, if we beat Texas, I won't complain about our record, even if it is 1-10. A lot of people will disagree with me here, but beating Texas trumps everything in my book.

Why? A&M is always more successful in the air. Reggie is amazing and his WR corps ain't bad. I hope that Courtney Lewis stays healthy and improves our running game, but I don't see where you're getting our passing game as our weakness. If anything, that is our #1 strength.
redraider217

Maybe that is why A&M hasn't matched up well with Tech in the past. We have an insane run defense, but our main weakness is Pass D, while Tech passes on 80% of plays. Our passing game is good, but so is Tech's pass D. Our running game has room for improvement, as does Tech's run D.

That is an interesting comment.... This is A&M In College Station right? Because there are other A&Ms out there. The one where Reggie shredded apart OU in his FIRST GAME? I don't remember how much but where he had like 4 or 5 touchdown passes in the first half alone? I don't even remember what he had the second half.
But I guess we'll see.....

No, that's Vince Young's hype. Reggie's hype is that he is a DUAL-threat, a runner and a passer. Reggie was the only D-IA QB last season to average over 230 yards passing and over 55 yards rushing per game.

not too shabby..... but do you realize where i am coming from???? forcing any offense to be one dimentional (especially a dual threat qb) would be most desirable

Reggies running ability isn't hype its pure speed. He might not have the moves VY has but if he gets open field its 6.
