Does anybody else sometimes think that Fran's main objective every game is to just be "in" the game. To me sometimes it seems that Fran coaches like he does not necessarily care if we win or lose, he just wants to be within a TD if possible, either on the up or downside, and that is good enough.

His philosophy this season is help the defense....
It's was obvious that last season we would score quickly & leave the defense out to dry... Fran's plan of dominating the clock works perfectly when we don't turn the ball over (INT in 3rd quarter).... Every Defense, including OU's, wears down when you dominate the clock... But the Players on offense have to do their part & last night our O'Line couldn't pass protect & McGee got happy feet to early some times...

I can see it. He has no testicular fortitude if you ask me.
He says he wants McGee to be a leader. Then Fran needs to let him be the leader on the field.
Mack Brown decided/figured it out that to win a NC that he had to let the QB run the show. Did it pay off? Slightly. Take notes Fran, take plenty of notes.

Are you wearing Burnt Orange right now?
Fran tried to put the ball in McGee's hands... Did you see how many times we went 5 wide? Seriously... did you watch the game at all? McGee made some smart decisions, but when the Defense came after him, he didn't react the right way & didn't find the open WR.... Which there were....

the coaches cant block defensive tackles or ends. the L is on both the coaches and players. But comon we couldnt score in the redzone, even ignoring the 3rd and 2.

I expressed my disapointment with Fran on my 1st post back, & the players....
I am equally disapointed in Fran but for different reasons than you & other people on here....
The players didn't do what was needed & Fran (NOT ON IN THE RED ZONE) didn't call a good game before we got to the red zone... like I said, to many 5 wide calls for my taste, he tried to put the game in McGee's hands in a formation that I personally don't like since we really never have any success out of it... Every time we are successful out to the passing game we are 3 wide or 2 wide & force the Defense into a 4-3 formation & exploit LB's & Safeties... Fran didn't do that & that is what pissed me off last night about Fran...
But having said that. I am equally disapointed in the players as well.... The only reason I am posting more on them is because everyone on here seems to think our guys CAN DO EVERYTHING & FRAN IS HOLDING THEM BACK... no one realizes that our guys make mistakes, which is what I am pointing out.....
Seriously... if our guys were that damn good, we would be 10-0, scoring 50 a game & holding teams to 0 every Saturday.

Um yeah I do....
Look at our 2 biggest recruits since Fran has been here.. Bennett & Goodson... look at who A&M was competing with... USC, LSU, tu, to name a few... teams that had been to BCS games... where were we? Coming off of 5-6 & 4-8 seasons....
I guess your forgetting what type of facilities those schools have.... not to mention their recent success.....

I would love to believe that to be true.. but these kids coming out of High School don't hear about A&M in a positive light right now & the kids Fran has brought in came here to play for him....
The same way the kids at Alabama went to play for him & the same way they did at TCU...

I don't think Fran has ever out-recruited Mack.
I said it before and I'll say it again- It is not personal. I don't think Fran is a good fit, nor is he the best coach, for the A&M Football program.
Just because someone criticizes Fran does not mean he/she is wearing burnt orange. In fact, t-sips probably want Fran for us.

Read my comment about why I asked about what shirt you are wearing....
Had nothing to do with recruiting... and while Fran might not be the BEST COACH... he is not going anywhere...
BB already said he has 6 seasons to get where BB wants the program.. Fran is on year 4.... On top of that... we are 8-2 and I see Fran staying around longer than 6 years... especially if he starts putting up 9 plus winning seasons....
I will be the 1st to admit... I am not 100% sold on Fran even today, but I back everyon EVENLY and critisize everyone EVENLY.... which is why I blame yesterday on Coaches & Players....
But if you don't like Fran & hate him that much... then you might want to start scheduling something other than watching A&M football for the next 2 to 4 years... at a minimum Fran will be around that long...

Every one of our Coaches has struggled having to play tu, Nebraska, OU & other Big 12, Big 8 & SWC teams... Case in point.... if our past coaches hadn't struggled, we would be on the other side of our overall record with tu.

Which is what I was trying to point out... It's not like A&M can just say you come to school here, you come to school here, you come to school here & were done.... that has to be earned, and the 5 years before this season has put us behind the curve.....
The problem is that one of them is a TE that doesn't have much place in your offense. And despite your depth at RB, you still go empty in the backfield way too much. And you recruited a passing QB to run the option.
I do & don't agree with this.... I agree with the part of going empty.... I wish we would stop doing that... we kill teams in the passing game when we only go 2 or 3 wide, no more than that.. every time we go 4 or 5 wide nothing good rarely happens....
But Bennett fits in when we have time to throw which seems to be the weak point to our O'LIne... they can push folks around in the running game pretty good, but in pass protection, there is still some work that Coach Helduser needs to do.....

It's because no one is fooled. We do it periodically. On passing downs and situations it makes sense. But most of the time it is a really bad formation.

He's got decent stats, but nothing incredible like he has the capability of putting up. The problem is that if you're going to just check off your primary receiver and tuck it and run it, it's not going to get to the TE much.
It appears to me to be coached, but who knows.
I think Bennet would do better if McGee would step up in the pocket to find him as opposed to just running or continuing to drop back.

Your right they could be better but before this week he was ranked 20th in the Big 12 out of all the WR's & TE's... Next to Missouri's TE's, his numbers have dwarfed other TE's in the Big 12....
I think Bennet would do better if McGee would step up in the pocket to find him as opposed to just running or continuing to drop back.
I agree.... Personally.... JMO I would like Bennett to be McGee's 2nd read more often.... and then if Bennett is covered take off with it...
But too often Bennett is the 3rd or 4th read & McGee sometimes does not have that much time, especially on obvious 3rd Down passing downs...

Fran is a good coach, but I believe he suffers from little angels and devils whispering in his ears once he gets into the redzone. I think he second guesses himself alot and avoids the obvious play. Maybe this all stems back to the Clemson game last year when he didn't go for two which cost us the game. The two field goals in the fourth quarter were justifiable, but I do not think they were the right call. Why Fran didn't let Lane run the ball on third and goal from the two baffels me. The passing game was non-exsistent all night, so calling a pass into the endzone was stupid.

Pum you are my boy we are on the same page ALL THE TIME....you, and Dustin and I would like to believe myself, and a few others on here (macduff, etc.) will ssupport this team and every aggie Including Fran because until he gets that pink slip he is and aggie and our coach....I'm sick of alot of people on here wanting to fire fran right now....what kind of message does that send other than your a scared he may sctually succeed and you will eat your words.....burnt orange is alot closer to yellow than maroon is....if you are scared i know of another in texas school you can support.
Here is the bottom line....fran as of right now is an AG and not to support and Ag is embarrassing. this is when the team needs us the most to pick them up. Save this kind of crap for the offseason if it is warranted. But if we win the next 2 and we are 10-2 and you are calling for his head something is wrong with you. If you go talk to a ton of the players especailly Mcgee i'm sure they will take ownership most of all. fran did make some calls you can question but nothing that made us lose the game outright. If they don't make a 10 yard run on second down on their last possesion we stop them and possibly win, and none of this sh*t is being said. So I bleed maroon and piss burnt orange and yellow, but it sounds like for some of y'all that can be questioned......the 12th man was amazing last night, but right now what i'm hearing is embarrassing...time to think about nu and get over it supprt our boys and their coach...think what you want in your head and have an opinion but do not bring them down publicly nothing good will come out of it.

So basically, based on your responses:
1. Coaches bring in players
2. Fran is one great recruiter because of our high recruiting classes.
3. We have lots of talented players because of great recruiting.
4. Fran still does not seem able to win the big games even with all this great recruiting/talent
= yes, Gravy, it does seem like just being "in" the game is good enough for Fran?

was that directed at me.....if so thanks for putting words in my mouth so let me correct you....yes fran can recruit and this year is the first year with only his recruits...and last I checked 8 wins was the most he had with a team with RC recruits.....so to spell it out its called progress...this year is the right direction....next year is the next step and greater things should be expected....these are his guys now and he is having his best season so far......and for the record there are still 2 big games left.....what if he goes into austin and knocks off the sips, I would say that is a big game win.....Why are you giving up do you not think we have a chance against the sips.....We do we have a better chance this year than last and we played them damn close last year.

You are agreeing with me.....we played them damn close last year (we were "in" the game, and that was good enough). We almost beat OU last year (we were "in " the game and that was good enough). I don't care who's recruits he is playing with, it seems "in" it is all we aim for. I don't think anybody on here except maybe Cali will be complaining if we beat the horns....wake up!

Your kidding me right? 3rd and 2 on the 2 yard line and you don't go with your 275lbs tailback?? That is stupid and everyone and their grandma knows it. That DID lose us the game.
Secondly how can you put the loss on the defense? I can't believe anyone would blame the defense for not coming up with the last stop. The defense provided plenty of chances for McGee and company to get the ball and win the game. And the offense and Fran squandered them all. So don't talk about how the defense lost the game for us.

joey thomas was open mcgee couldn't pull the trigger and if he does and makes it everybody is saying it was a great cll because they thought lane would get the ball...I'm not blaming the D, I'm saying if they stop there we have a good chance at getting the ball back.....the D played their asses off and fran put his faith in them at the end they caught us just right.
Please find where I said the D lost it for us....I said if they get a stop there, there is a good chance we get it back....that one play did not cost us it was good execution by ou nothing more

Well, first off, the nu game is now no longer a big game. It would be nice to beat them and go to 9-2, but the importance of the game is no longer a factor in winning the south. The tu game is always a big game due to the rival aspect. Also, by declaring a fact, I am not condemning anybody. If I say it is raining outside, although I am quite magnificent, the fact that I say it does not make it rain. Likewise, since Fran has not beaten tu in his entire A&M career, me stating that fact does not condemn us to losing to them this year, although it is interesting that even you are already looking for someone to blame it on should it happen.

YOu could not be any farther off than that....
We are coming off a 5-6 season... Any game against a Big 12 team that will help us get to 9-2 is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's SENIOR DAY!!!!!!!! Last Home Game for Warren, Chad, Riley, to name a few.... Another reason it's a big game....
It might not be a big game to you, but in the big scheme of things, IT'S HUGE!!!!!!!!!

It's also huge because that win will shore up at minimum, 3rd place in the Big XII south. A loss and we risk dropping into 4th (which hurts the bowl chances).

The only way this is not a huge game for anyone is if you have already given up on the season......

First off, the NU game is huge because its a game with two ranked teams. Now, I know that people that are wanting so badly to fire Fran don't consider the Mizzu game a big win, but anytime you beat a top 25 team, its a big win. The NU win, will be a big win.
As far as TexAgFromCal goes, here is the difference. Those who are pointing out everyone's mistakes from the OU game aren't calling for anyone's head. You haven't heard a single person say, "McGee missed Joey in the back of the EZ, thats unacceptable. Bench his ass!! Pull his 'ship!!!" As Aggies, we don't do that kind of crap to other Aggies. But people like Loftin & Greg are doing the same thing to another Aggie.
The blame for this loss falls on everyone. Yes, the conservative thing to do on 3rd & goal would be give the ball to Lane. But that doesn't mean Lane would have got it in. So Fran's fault for not giving it to Lane. But he made a call to fake the handoff & he had the guy open. Good call by Fran. Bad execution by the players. So Fran's fault for not making the obvious call. Players fault for not executing the right call. So fire Fran & bench McGee, or keep the coach on the sideline & the starters on the field. You can't have it both ways.

I disagree. McGee had already thrown the interception and his passing was suspect at best. The play call may have gotten a reciever open but McGee was not mentally ready to throw the ball because of the int.
A coach should see that his QB is struggling and hand the ball off to Lane and let him win/tie the game. It's the fact that they called any kind of pass at all that I have a problem with.

I think the problem with McGee's passing was that he was running for his life everytime he tried to pass.

Dustin, I am pretty sure that I read a post where you said if JLane got in Frans face, he should be benched. now I happen to agree with you on that, but it does not change the fact that you would want him benched because it is disruptive to the team, and you cannot allow that to happen. Well, so far Fran's decisions are just as disruptive if not moreso in that everybody on the team suffers for Fran's bad decisions. Only JLane would suffer for his.

On that paticular play he dropped back nearly 15 yards! I know he had a guy chasing him but instead of rolling away he just ran backwards.
The coaches didn't do him any favors at all by not burning OU with some screens to get OU to stop blitzing so deep.

But you can't say he shouldn't let McGee throw the ball in that situation & at the same time say how stupid Fran was for kicking the FG on 4th & 6. The people that are bitching about the coaching sit here & say how stupid it was to throw the ball on from the 2, and then say how stupid it was to kick the FG on 4th & 6. Well, you can't run the damn ball on 4th & 6. And according to you, the coaches should realize when the QB is off, so you couldn't throw it there. You can't have your cake & eat it too.

I don't think Lane should be benched for because what he did was disruptive to the team. I think he should be benched because it was out of line. There are certain things you just don't do--and one of them is get in your coaches face & start yelling at him on the sideline. Everyone has their place & Lane needs to be put back in his after that childish outburst. I understand his frustration, but you have to be able to control your emotions. I have no problem with him telling Fran that he wants the ball & that he'll score (he did it earlier this season & I was okay with it.), but I do have a problem with him going about it the way he did.

Does anybody else sometimes think that Fran's main objective every game is to just be "in" the game.
Without reading any posts on this thread except the first one, let me say: "If that is his objective, he has failed miserably 2 out of his last 5 attempts."
