You have no coaching abilities if you think that. Pointless thread.

Ill agree with him.... when we were down 7 fg's dont help and we would have needed 3 drives against a very good D (as herbie pointed out). The chances of us getting 3 drives down to the FG range was pretty small. We didnt maximize our oppertunities plain and simple.

i would of liked to see us go for it honestly, just because of the tceh game though.

Not on both drives though. The first FG was okay and that's my point. We had a 4th and 2 and they were stuffing the run pretty well in short yardage situations. You have to kick that one.

There is two ways to look at this. First, its the 3rd and 2 that bothers people. You have to use your bread and butter, the man who has 18 touchdowns.
So, we don't get it and we kick the field goal, thats fine. But the next series you have the ball you have to go for it, YOU HAVE TO! The first field goal was to keep you in the game and have a chance to win, that was the whole point of the first field goal.
The other way you look at it is that we had trouble moving the ball all night and you were knocking on the doorstep. To me, on 3rd and 2 you run J-Lane. Then on 4th and 2 you run J-Lane. If they stop you, I say congrats. But its still not a total loss because you have them backed up most likely on their own 1 yard line.
I wanted to go for it. I thought that was the better play call.

after our second feild goal and they had the ball we stopped them for a no gain or a loss. The the bust one up the cut for 9 or 10 and need 3 and 1. Thats what killed us we stop him to even a 6 or 7 yard gain we get the ball back. I think we most likely win. I agree about the 3 and 2, but joey was open everybody saw him but mcgee couldn't pull the trigger

Pinetar, yea Joey was open, but McGee was rattled all game. I don't think you put the ball in his hands in that situation. Use the guy who was avg. 5 yards a game.
I think if we were gonna try and get tricky it should have been a quick hand off to Alexander. It worked well last week.

Lane was stuffed a quite a few times in the game. I was hoping for the hand off to alexander myself he is average 5 or 6 yards on that play all season

On the 1st drive we should have went for it. Put Lane in and punch it through. Worst case? OU starts with the ball on the 1 or 2 yard line.

should of did like a triple option or something like that or a wr screen like in the kansas game.

The thing is, if Fran would've run Lane twice & didn't make it, all of you that are bitching about the coaching now, would be bitching about the coaching. After watching their defense blow up our O-line most of the night--especially in short yardage situations--for the first time all season I was worried whether or not Lane could get 2 1/2 yards on two carries. I'll say it again...THE CALL WAS PERFECT...the players didn't execute!

I can honestly state that if they stopped J-Lane twice on 3rd and 4th and two I would have not been upset. I wanted our bread and butter against theirs. If we can't get two yards then we don't deserve to win.
Dustin, I am not sure its the right play call when McGee was not playing well in the passing game all night.

On 3rd and goal at the 2 I was calling for the I formation with the handoff to Alexander. Everyone knows that Lane would get the carry.

VLYrock, you are an idiot.
You are new to the site, so let me fill you in. Vly owns this site. Not too smart to just call him an idiot. I disagree with him a lot, but that what sports fans do. He is no idiot.

Not to mention, apparently if you call someone else an idiot on this board that constitutes a personal attack. Even if that person IS an idiot. (not vlyrock. another poster)

Don't get me started on that, Wade. We are simply expected to bear it.

this is hilarious...
I don't disagree that would be a decent play, and COULD have worked...but everyone is saying J-Train, or bust...you're saying Alexander...I'm sure if we tried one of the two & failed...someone would say, why didn't we pass it to the TE (which we tried, Joey was open...)?
Comes down to execution. The play was there, just wasn't made.

I really dont think people would have bitched at the go for it call.... and if they did it sure wouldnt have been to the level of kicking the fg's. Atleast he was trying to WIN the game instead of playing not to lose.

I said the same thing earlier in the thread. If we are gonna try and be somewhat tricky it should have been the quick hand off to Alexander. I think that or J-Lane would have been a better play call (noticed I said better play call not right play call, it all comes down to execution as most have said).

Amen. I complain about a lot of things. Running up the middle with Lane Train at the goalline is NOT one of those things.

First off i think you at least give lane a chance to get a score on 3rd and 2, and if he gets stopped then kick it for sure.
Fran has gone away from giving him the ball in goalline situations. the beginning of the year thats where lane had all of his td's. but lately fran seems to like the pa to alexander or some other pass when you are inside the 5. the OSU game we had a few situations that were 1st and gaol inside the five, and fran ran some crappy passes and we have settled for the fg. POUND IT WITH LANE!!!

I agree with Dustin..... The OU D'line didn't give at all... there was no budging....
 Also another thing... on that 3rd & 2... McGee had Bennett open in the endzone... I know I was right behind it...
 Bennett was open over the middle all night for 5, 10 & 12 yds a pop & on that 3rd & 2, & McGee never hit him..... It was frustrating to watch that... With out conisistent instant replay, it was tough to tell if there was always someone in McGee's face... but this was not one of his best games at all...
McGee said it best earlier in the season.... when a team loses... the fault goes on the Head Coach & the QB & that is where I put this game....
 McGee's 2nd INT of the game put us in a situation that eventually cost us the game... It gave ou the only 3 points they needed in the 2nd half...
 Coach Fran seriously disapointed me in going 5 wide as often as he did... The 2 FG's didn't upset me, but the 5 wide's did... The few times McGee had success passing the ball was when A&M kept in Lane or a TE to block & 2, 3 or 4 guys went out on routes.... McGee was almost perfect in those situations.... Fran forced the 5 wide 1 to many times for my taste & I was pretty pissed about that.....
 One thing that I don't know if other's have over looked.. but False Starts at HOME by the O'Line was equally disapointing... 3 or 4 seperate times the O'LIne took A&M out of reasonable situations & put them in Long Yardage situations & that was the most disapointing issue for me... & it seemed to always happen on passing downs.... I mean damn... Fran can't run the ball every down.... The O'Line needs to man up & play with the same dicsipline on passing downs that it does on rushing downs...

You also have to look at the push our O'LIne was getting against those early teams & the push they are getting against these late teams...
Our O'Line is getting some push... but what used to be a gauranteed pounding by our O'Line has now become a toe to toe slug fest with D'Lines that are equally as talented.... Also if anyone noticed... on that 3rd & 2... J-Train was hit 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage on the fake.... Had he been stopped 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage then we still kick the FG.....
