COLLEGE STATION - While keeping track of his alma mater, Ja'Mar Toombs has heard the comparisons to sophomore Texas A&M running back Jorvorskie Lane.
Toombs said he sees a lot of himself in the way Lane rumbles his 278-pound frame downfield, leaving flattened defenders in his wake.
You look at our sizes, look at what I did and what he's doing," said Toombs, who was featured in the A&M backfield as a 270-pound back from 1998-2000. "I think it's no doubt that we are the same type of running back.
"He runs over people, picks up the short yardage, wears defenses down and has deceptive-looking speed."

Toombs was great, but he is no where near J-Train in overall ability.
Thou shalt not talk about Toombs' name in vain!!!!!!!!

too bad he doesn't have any eligibility left. J-Train & Toombs...
I think it would make linebackers cry.
what is Toombs doing now?
He played for the Dallas Desperados after he went undrafted to the NFL. He still has a page on their website but he isn't listed in their current roster.

TOOOOOOOOOOMBS is one of my favorite all-time Aggies.
That being said, J-Train is like Toombs 2, the upgraded model.

Toombs was the original Hummer...... Lane is the H2.... in the future... there will be an H3...
Consider this a prophecy of what's to come...

Toombs would probably be playing on Sundays if he hadn't left early..that was dumb.
And he wasn't the protytpe big back at A&M. As an old(er) geezer, I vividly remember watching George Woodard in the mid '70s drag would-be tacklers down the field on a regular basis. "Thunder thighs" was an understatement. He had no moves, but if you needed 3 yards, he was probably 95%.

By the way, playing in them same backfield with Woodard was a serviceable half-back names Bubba Bean.
Coach Emory Ballard, Bubba, and George wore t.u. down my freshman year (1975), 20-10 at Kyle Field. If memory serves me correct.
It went downhill from there, though, to the point that a popular bumper sticker back then read "Make Emory a memory". Not a pretty time.
Sorry to hijack the thread - I'll stop with the old stuff.

Is Baylor's defense considered "fast" or "big" or "neither"??

I bet you a $1 that none of you youngsters remember George Woodard. He played during the Bellard years, and let me tell you , he was a biiiiiiiiggggg man. He broke his leg playing softball between his Jr and Sr year and was red shirted. But when he got the ball, everyone would shout WWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I met him in 1986 after I graduated at a walmart in Lake Jackson. He works at Dow, and was a really great guy. I think he got a kick when I knew who he was.

Then lets call Woodard the original Hummer, Toombs the H2 & Lane the H3....
Or we could just say SCREW IT... and label them the Holy Trinity of Big Backs!!!!!!

If anything... Break away speed... If he had that to go along with everything he is capable of now.... that would be it....
He is fast for his size, can break tackles, can catch... can block... all he is missing is break away speed...
