Here's an excerpt:A draft night mistake is every general manager's worst nightmare. A Darko Milicic. A Kwame Brown. A Shawn Respert.

Every year, pro clubs err and guarantee millions to the Ed O'Bannons, Todd Fullers, Reece Gaineses and Adonal Foyles of the world. In other words, scouting is not a hard science. Nonetheless, a few principles (should) apply.

Don't go juco
Junior college players make mediocre pros. Last year, Rick Pitino was furious with Donta Smith for reneging on his commitment to Louisville and jumping directly from Southeastern Illinois Junior College to the pros. No matter. While Smith warmed the bench and won 13 games in Atlanta, Pitino's Cardinals won 33 games and advanced to the Final Four. Much like Qyntel Woods, Kedrick Brown, and Aleksandar Radojevic before him, Smith has proven a poor pick.

Rule for GMs: don't listen to the idiots in the crowd.

Maceij Lampe, who was projected as a top 15 pick a couple of years ago, slipped to the second round and was picked up by New York. New York was where the draft was held, and the crowd chanted "LAM-PE, LAM-PE" when New York was on the clock. Obviously, Lampe has made no impact on any NBA roster (if he still is on one).

Although second round picks rarely produce results, here are some solid players that New York passed up for Maceij Lampe:

Luke Walton
Jason Kapono
Kyle Korver
Brandon Hunter

I think that rule should be reversed for the NFL New York Jets....

They make stupid drafts and the fans usually have the right person in mind...

Sorry, I didn't know he was Polish. Still, he hasn't done anything worth mentioning in his career so far.
