What's the timeframe in signing a coach?
When do you guys expect an announcement?

I'd say a week after the CWS

We really need to nail down a coach soon.

Well said Will, the big time coaching hires in every sport are usually the earliest ones.

This is the biggest roller coaster ride. I heard last night that it was Childress...all but done, but then the article comes out this morning with Horton's quotes in it. I think if it was Horton & then it would've been announced by now. If there is a press conference in the next few days I expect it to be Childress...only because NU just got eliminated.

I agree. The fact that the article says we haven't contacted Horton says something. I think by now, with CS Fullerton out of it, he would've at least heard from us if we didn't have somebody else already lined up or in mind.

It kind of bothers me that it sounds like we have Horton if we want him, but that we haven't even talked to him yet. Childress might be a great coach for us, but passing on Horton seems like a mistake to me. Granted, I have no idea what is really going on. Plus, I have learned to not question BB's coaching hires. He has a pretty good track record thus far.
Also, I think the firing of MJ has collectively raised the annual salaries of D1 baseball coaches by a percent or two. How many coaches now have received nice raises just b/c we were interested?

Yeah, that's the funny part...one guy getting fired is good for coaches everywhere.
I think BB is holding out though, just because of his Nebraska ties and Childress will be given the opportunity if he wants it. Again, I don't even know if we've been in contact with him. He may turn it down, and then we could get Horton. We still have several weeks before anything has to be done...

For the record, I think Horton's wife is the bread winner, I think she makes somwhere above $300K per year, so she doesn't want to leave, that may be the hold up there. I also think Byrne, for reputation purposes, want to make sure once he makes an offer it won't be rejected. Not that it matters, but it wouldn't look good if we offered Horton, and then go a very public NO! If I had to pick someone, I would be going all out for Horton, the man is proven and with the resources at hand I have a feeling we'd be a force. :)
