Beginning this week, I will be putting together a weekly summary of Texas A&M Athletics. This week we cover Football, Men’s Basketball, and Soccer.

Football Texas A&M and t.u. have been chosen to appear on a special edition Wheaties box (http://www.aggiefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10724&highlight=wheaties) to commemorate the third longest rivalry in college football, dating back to 1894.
Plans are being put together to fix the concrete surface (http://www.aggiefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10714&highlight=track) around Kyle Field’s turf. The $400,000 project was announced just after freshman running back Michael Goodson slipped and fell on the concrete while celebrating the first touchdown run of his career. The project will start as soon as the funds are raised and could be finished before the year is over.
Last weeks win over Missouri puts Texas A&M in a favorable position to make a run at the Big 12 south. The Aggies control their own destiny (http://www.aggiefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10655&highlight=destiny) in the race to the conference title game.
This Saturday, the Aggies play the Oklahoma State (http://www.aggiefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10680&highlight=Oklahoma+State) Cowboys at 6:00pm in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The game in Stillwater two years ago was also OSU’s homecoming game. The Aggies won that game 36-20.
Basketball
The Aggies were picked second in the Preseason Big 12 Basketball Coaches’ Poll (http://www.aggiefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10618). This is the highest coaches’ poll ranking for the Aggies since they joined the Big 12. Full standings are shown below.
Team (1st-place votes) Points 1. Kansas (11)* 121 2. Texas A&M (1) 109 3. Oklahoma State 97 4. Texas 95 5. Kansas State 76 6. Texas Tech 68 7. Baylor 60 8. Missouri 44 9. Oklahoma 4210. Nebraska 3711. Iowa State 2312. Colorado 20 Texas A&M breaks its own record national record with “Maroon Madness (http://www.aggiefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9747&highlight=Maroon+Madness)”. An estimated 28,000 fans attended the largest basketball practice in the country. The team held practice in conjunction with midnight yell for the second year in a row.
The ticket office (http://www.aggiefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10789) is trying to figure out how to allot around 4,000 student basketball tickets to 16,000 students with all sports passes. The top ten ranked basketball team should be in higher demand this year due to last years success, this years ranking, and an improved out of conference schedule. All that I have to add to this is “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Men’s basketball opens its schedule November 10th vs. Prairie View A&M.
Soccer
The 8th ranked Women’s Soccer Team (11-3-1) heads into this weekend undefeated in conference play (7-0). With three Big 12 games left, the Aggies can clinch a third straight regular season title this weekend with two wins.
The Soccer team plays Iowa State on Friday at 7:30pm and Missouri on Sunday at 12:00pm at the Aggie Soccer Stadium before traveling to Austin for the annual match up with t.u. on Friday October 27
