I think I'd still get them. It's more like..."no more excuses"
http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/images/siemens.jpg
Soon you'll have no more excuses for driving 55mph in a 35mph zone, making illegal U-turns or narrowly missing pedestrians in a crosswalk. Siemens has developed an in-car technology that uses a special camera and on-board computer to read and interpret road signs and display the information in your field of vision For instance, if you're coming up on a speed limit sign, the system will float the posted limit alongside your actual speed on your windshield. Siemens hopes to have the technology integrated into vehicles in the next couple of years.

It's a heads up display, not terribly different from what the Air Force uses in its fighter jets.

Heads up display (HUD) has been an option in the Corvette and a few other GM cars since 1999. I think a few other companies have it now too. The new part of the technology is the ability to read the road signs. I think most people would like it if they had it, but its really just another unnecessary option. Your money would be better spent on a radar/laser detector.

Not necessarily. Laser detectors are basically useless. By the time your detector goes off, you have already been "shot" and will be getting pulled over if speeding.

HUD displays would make for a safer driving environment since ou won't have to take your eyes off of the road. I hope they become standard very soon.

Not True!!
I have a Cobra and i pick up state troopers 1/2 mile down the road before they "shoot" me. Laser is usually constantly on, so you will pick up the weak signal before it is focused on you. I trust mine 100%. Hasnt done me wrong yet. :gig:

Laser isn't constantly on, radar is. The laser "shoots" you when the trooper pulls the trigger. Your Cobra is detecting the radar not the laser.

K band is radar. Ka is the laser they use. Ka is constantly on is some instances.

Here is an idea. Just speed less. Slot will correct me if I'm wrong, but unless its late on a Friday or Sat. night, or in a school zone, you can usually drive 5 mphs over the speed limit in town & 7-9 over on the highways. Thats 77 mph in most instances on the highway without having to worry about being pulled over. Thats fast enough for me.

I can correct you on that one. I have gotten a ticket for 74 on HWY 21. I have also gotten a ticket for 33 in a 30 in College Station. Both times i wasnt doing anything else wrong. Neither were at the specified times.

Hence "usually". You must just look shady. One exception is time of the month. End of the month that rule kind of goes out the window.

I think the last five times I got pulled over I got let go. And the last time was ridiculous. 40 in a 25 was what pulled me over. Plus, my inspection sticker was expired by about a month (i just forgot about it), I wasent' wearing my seatbelt, and I had no proof of insurance (my new card was sitting on my table. It takes about a month for something like that to make the transition from table to glove compartment. And in SA if you have no proof if insurance your car is automatically towed). That's 4 infractions he had me on.
And he let me go! Haha, sucker.

I guess your radar detector didn't work too well then, huh?
I can vouch for what I say. I drive a lot--60,000 miles a year, minimum, every year for the last 6 years. I've had a total of 3 tickets in that time period.

That was the reason i got it, after those two tickets.
But i guess the first i was driving a RED Jepp Wrangler and the secong i was driving a lifted jeep cherokee. I guess both scream HS/College Student. Lukily i can get out of tickets from state troopers. I have been pulled over by them at least 10 times and only have 2 tickets from them.

Actually, that is incorrect. X, K, and Ka are the three radar bands used by police. Laser is seperate from those. If a policeman's radar gun is on, your detector will be going off constantly showing either X, K, or Ka. If your laser band goes off, that means your car was just hit with a policeman's laser gun. If that is the case, you are getting pulled over!
A growing trend today are police departments moving to laser (lidar) enforcement and it is estimated that there are over 50,000 police laser guns in use today in the USA. These guns transmit a beam of infrared light at a frequency of 330 terahertz. This light beam is only 18 inches wide at 500 feet and gets smaller as you approach the officer. This narrow light beam is aimed by the officer to a reflective area on your vehicle, such as your headlamps or front license plate. The officer can only use the laser gun while he is stationary.
Unless your radar detector is within this 18" circle, or it picks up "scatter" from the beam, your radar detector will never alert. And by chance it does, it is too late as the officer has already obtained your speed.
Therefore, "NO RADAR/LASER detector is effective against this type of traffic enforcement."
