View Full Version : Media on Aggie Fans

For those who don't think the Media doesn't read what said on web sites like this one please read this...
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/colleges/15749591.htm
Aggiefans.com was not mentioned by name, but it is obvious that what some of us have been saying is very true.....
But here are some interesting quotes from the article...
Call me old-fashioned, but I always thought that Aggies were loyal.
Loyal to Texas A&M. Loyal to their fellow Aggies.
Loyal, yes, to the man hired to coach the Texas A&M Aggies football team.
A good Aggie, I always thought, would never think of frequenting an Internet Web site, like the mutiny-inspired ones at firedennisfranchione.com or franunderfire.com.
Doomsayers predicting Fran's demise are not hard to find. But Byrne is the AD, not the buzzards circling on the fan Web sites.
The critics also will remind that Franchione is a combined 1-9 against Tech, Oklahoma and Texas, the Aggies' chief rivals in the Big 12 South. Fran, for now, has no argument for that.
The other charge leveled against Franchione is that he is "not Aggie enough."
And Jackie Sherrill, who trampled all over the Aggies Code of Honor, was?
Athletic director Bill Byrne has said that he thinks six years are needed to evaluate a head coach. If you buy into the notion -- as Byrne reportedly does -- that R.C. Slocum left the football program in a feeble state, Franchione could finish 8-4 this season and rightfully claim measurable progress.
Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel, it bears noting, was 29-30 before this season. In this, his sixth season with the Tigers, nobody is daring to call for Pinkel's job.
Franchione's defense desperately needs more quickness. It needs a furious pass rusher and some depth at linebacker.
By all apparent accounts, the Aggies players love their head coach. It's coming, they say. It's coming.

And when did LeBretton become an oracle? He's giving his opinion. Did he go to A&M? I hate when people that didn't go here think they know how things work.
I think it really comes down to the loss against tceh. As much as the powers that be in Aggie footbal won't admit we have a rivalry with tceh I'm gonna say it. We have a rivalry with tceh.
I personally am tired of loosing to tceh. I'm tired of their classless a$$hole fans assualting people, destroying property, and generally existing. If the entire university in lubbock suddenly dissapeared I wouldn't care.
The tceh game is one of those you circle on the calender and mark down as a must win.
I know we all hate loosing but think about this. Lets say we had the same record overall 5-1, 1-1 in conference. But the win was against tceh and the loss was against Kansas. Would people be as pi$$ed? Some might sure. But I think most of this crap wouldn't even exist.

SA, I think you might want to look up the definition of "opinion." Just discussing the pieces of the article that Pum quoted.
Aggies ARE supposed to be loyal. Whether or not everyone is or not is irrelevant. That first quote is FACT.
Doomsayers predicting Fran's demise are not hard to find. But Byrne is the AD, not the buzzards circling on the fan Web sites.
What exactly about that is opinion? Its all FACT!
The critics also will remind that Franchione is a combined 1-9 against Tech, Oklahoma and Texas, the Aggies' chief rivals in the Big 12 South. Fran, for now, has no argument for that.
The other charge leveled against Franchione is that he is "not Aggie enough."
And Jackie Sherrill, who trampled all over the Aggies Code of Honor, was
Again, all FACT!!! Fran has struggled against tu, tech, & OU. And Jackie cheated, which violates the Aggie Code of Honor.
Athletic director Bill Byrne has said that he thinks six years are needed to evaluate a head coach. If you buy into the notion -- as Byrne reportedly does -- that R.C. Slocum left the football program in a feeble state, Franchione could finish 8-4 this season and rightfully claim measurable progress
Again, no opinion. Just reiterating (sp?) what BB has said. FACT!
Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel, it bears noting, was 29-30 before this season. In this, his sixth season with the Tigers, nobody is daring to call for Pinkel's job.

Is is LeBretton's opinion that Pinkel is in his 6th season & undefeated?
We do need more quickness....even the coaches say that.
And the players do love their coach...they have said that.
All those quotes are all FACT. Did you even read the thing? Or did you miss that day in 3rd grade when they discussed the difference between Fact & Opinion?

Ok Boozin.......
So any Fan who never went to A&M but is a Die Hard Fan... bleeds Maroon & White & follows the team religiously, doesn't know anything? Some would say that even those who have attended A&M might not still understand what is to be an Aggie....
or........
Could it be that someone in the media points out the obvious & some folks don't like to hear the truth....

What does it matter what his background is? How about instead, address the issue & point out his "opinions" in the article. Or even better, show us where his "facts" were wrong. If you need definitions to distinguish between the two, let me know.

This is what you said...

Sorry Dizzle didn't see this post. First I wasn't around in the days of Jackie so I don't know but everyone seemed to love him and still does. People don't seem to like Fran in general not just as a coach. What is innerate and how do you redo it? Do you think players would actually say they don't like their coach?

Good point...but then again, no one is telling them to speak out & speak up to defend him...which they are.
If I wanted to be tactful when talking about a coach I didn't agree with, I would say "no comment" or otherwise skirt the issue...

Considering the bias against A&M, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of folks at the Star-Telegram and DMN wanted A&M to keep a struggling coach, much like t.u.'s opponents wanted them to keep Mackovic after '97.
Pumchavas28
10-13-2006, 12:28 PM
Also..... I don't know if I agree with BB on this issue myself....
But regardless of what any of us thinks.... Fran has 2 more years with us..... even if "CJA"s, "Sunshine Pumpers", like it or not....

Lol..... your reaching on that one.....
I doubt that is the case.... especially since everything he said was FACT.....
He even pointed out the not so bright points about Fran's stay at A&M.....
Besides... if that was their agenda, you would think you would see more articles like that one.....

Regardless of whether you were around during Jackie's days or not, & who cares if people liked him or not, he CHEATED! That violated the Aggie Code of Honor, which is all the writer of the article was pointing out. I hope you plan to go into politics, SA, because you are great at never addressing the issue & giving those perfect political answers on all issues.
Uh, yes...players have come out on a regular basis & have said that they don't like their coach...both at the collegiate & professional level. When players say, "We got outcoached," what do you think they are saying?
And I said in the post I had no clue how to spell it, but you knew what I meant. But just to keep the grammar police happy, I fixed it for you.

Why is the fact that some people are complaining about our coach, newsworthy? I am guessing that there is not a group of fans at any school who didn't have atleast some people complaining about a coach who may be struggling. Heck, texas used to complain about Mack when he was going 10-2. It didn't hurt them in recruiting. That was a pointless article I thought.

Your kidding right?
I am guessing you haven't been following this issue.... it's been said by RECRUITS that if there is a coaching change that they will not come to A&M...
The same has been said about any other team who is pondering a coaching change..... that weighs heavily on a recruit.....
Check it out on Rivals or Scouts...
When any group of fans complains about the coach, the media is quick to bring it to light..... NC State, Miami, tu, heck even OU now.....
The only difference is that, this article, finally says publicly what some of us on here have been saying since the season began.....

IF Byrne is saying that Fran will be head another 2 years no matter what then we need to hunker down and rally around the entire team, including the coaching staff. I have no doubt that BB is holding his hand until this season is over and we would all do ourselves and the team a favor and let them know we support their efforts.
One game at a time, Ags.
