This article doesn't elaborate, but Jim Rome talked about what happened on his show this afternoon. Apparently, these 5 players were caught over the weekend with 2 six packs of beer in their hotel room. At least two of the players were 21 years old. But, they were not supposed to have alcohol, so the coach kicked them all off the team. These guys had never been in trouble before.

That is messed up. Colleges like Miami have felons starting on their teams, but UConn kicks players off their team for drinking beer???? Its not like they had a keg or something either. Five guys with 12 beers. This story will do a lot for recruiting next year.

kind of interesting to see what some teams will tolerate in order to be successful

Miami would have kicked them out too...
for not having more beer/drugs.

That is amazing. They were just being college kids.

Although you have to aplaud UConn for the lenghs they are going to run a clean program, epecially when others get down and dirty. But I still don't approve of such strict a sentence if the above is true. I would maybe supsend them a game (it's still team rules and breaking them when others are following is selfish) but that's it.

Yeah I would have suspended them for a game or two. Kicking them out seems over the top. But then again who cares it's UConn.

I like the spirit... and it sends a message to follow the rules or else. It's a bit strict for a first offense, though.

A one- or two-game suspension would have been more appropriate. They broke team rules and deserved a suspension.

However, to kick 5 players off the team for having 12 beers between them is ludicrous. That is excessive. A tea-totalling college like Baylor would not even do that.

I don't know I might be more willing to believe it if it happened at Baylor.
