Why 619?

well, i made oreo619 when i was in the 4th grade....it was my first experience with the internet, and i had to think of a username before i could log in. i was eating oreos at the time, and that was it.
Since i'm starting to publish the articles on this site, and I'm pretty close to joining the real world and graduating, I'd like to have a more professional username on both this site, texags, and my email address. I've sent an email to texags and changed my email address. Seem reasonable? I just don't see oreo619 as being my username for life

I'm very excited about the articles if you can't tell

Sounds reasonable, but you may want to consider not having an email address you use for jobs, etc be the same as something you post all over message boards...but that's just my 2 cents

Sounds good :gig: Why even add the 619 to your name, you could just be H Miles.

yeah hmiles619 is not exactly what i use for my email address....close, but not exact. I think i post fairly resonably though...nothing i'd be ashamed of

I didn't mean you had anything to be ashamed of. Just making a general comment. More and more employers are becomming aware of message boards/facebook/myspace/etc and sometimes it's best to not be identifiable.
But again, nothing against you personally. And the article was good, keep it up.:rep:

Now, if your paranoid, you should register your old name so no one can pose as oreo619 :D

That post made me feel really old since you were in 4th grade when you first got to use the internet. When I was in 4th grade (1987), if you had a 386 computer, you came from a rich family!

in elementary we only had 1 computer per class. Although they gerrymandered my ass to the ghetto elementary. I used the internet in 6th grade for the first time at home

:D :D :D I was thinking the same thing. The first time I had a user name was when I came to A&M in 96. Good old acs.tamu.edu mail server. It isn't even around anymore. Do they still have the old VACS (I think it was VACS) system to run all the class registration stuff?
You used to be able to login and access the phone book, your grades, unofficial transcripts, classes still available during registration, sign up for email, and a couple of other things with VACS.
You had to do it all too without the mouse. It was suprising how many people didn't know to TAB between fields.
Ah working for CIS that was the best job I ever had. I got paid to surf the web and read my email.

Growing up in El Campo, I didn't really know what email was until I got to A&M in '96. :D

There's none of that anymore. Everything like that is now on http://myrecord.tamu.edu

Holy crap. Things were moving that way when I left. Pretty slick. I remember when I first moved into Schuhmacher we had dial-up internet access. So when registration time came around I set my modem to dial the registration number over and over till I got connected.
Do they even register by phone anymore?

Nope. It's all online though that site. Really simple and easy. You can register for all your classes in about 5 min if you're lucky.

You guys have it so easy now.
I know there's some other older Ag saying I had it easy registering by telephone. I didn't have to stand it Sibsa waiting in line for classes. Blah. Blah. Blah.
