Anybode else notice that the fullback position has basically faded from college football?
I understand that having a fullback causes you to have one less WR and we're in a very pass-happy era of football...but, you figure that having a good fullback and using him consistently could benefit some teams...
We need to bring back the smash-mouth running of old. Bring back the fullback! :cheesy:

I think Penn State, Minnesota, and Alabama were the only teams last season that I heard someone call "smash-mouth." It's a dying art.

i totally agree, I always love to see a big back making a whole for the tail back or taking it in himself. Although I love to see the passing game I wish they would bring the fullback position back!!!

Jamar Toombs run against OU in 2000. What happened? He ran right behind Stacy Jones, got the first down, and then drug the defense in to the end zone. Key part? Run behind Jones. He was the smasher that ensured the first down. It was a 4th and short situation. The remaining part became part of Aggie Football lore. Without Jones' blocking that never happens.
I have harped since then about the lack of a true smash mouth FB on the roster. KJ did an adequate job, but he wasn't a true FB.
People may have whined about Nebraska's "antiquated" option offense under Osborne and Solich, but you had to respect it, because they had smashmouth fullbacks who made it work.
